Outpatient Clinic Flow Simulator

What is this?

A discrete-event simulation of one clinic morning, driven by a value stream map. The map is not a diagram next to the model — it is the model: demand, staffing, and the cycle-time range at each step compile directly into the running 3D clinic. Patients arrive, queue, and flow through reception, triage, consult, and treatment while the event log and KPIs update live.

How it works

Watch the morning run, then go see the work the way a coach would: open a step's time observation sheet to see individual cycles, the lowest repeatable time, and the causes of spread — the same discipline behind standardized work. Then change the system: edit demand or staffing on the map, apply an improvement, and compile a new morning. The debrief compares the run you just watched against the last one, so every change is an experiment with a before and after.

It is built for teaching flow in healthcare — workshops, classrooms, and lean training — alongside our other lean games and simulations and the patient journey mapping guide. The numbers are illustrative, calibrated from published evidence; the simulator is a teaching model, not a tool for operational decisions.
